Depression
Many great men in the Bible had at times, felt overwhelmed and hopeless. Even Jesus said his sorrow felt like death. God can truly sympathise with our sufferings. In the midst of our darkness, God promises to be with us. He will strengthen and protect us when we turn our entire selves over to Him. Let us be like King David who went through depression and went on to say that his hope is from God and that he would not be shaken.
Psalm 42:11 ESV Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

A prayer in the midst of depression
“Dear Heavenly Father,
I look at my life and can’t help but feel discouraged and hopeless. I am continually battling the inner demons of depression and loneliness. There is dread and fear in my heart.
Job 10:1 ESV “I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
Thank you that I can bring the bitterness of my soul to You and You will not turn me away. Thank you that You have always been ready to heal and restore me, when I am ready to turn everything of me to You completely. Thank you for understanding this pain and being patient with me.
Hebrews 4:15 ESV For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction…
I choose to re-dedicate myself fully to Jesus because You are my Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 ESV For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
I confess I have set my mind on things that are on earth, instead of all that You have prepared for my life. Right now, my earthly problems seem larger than life. Please show me at which point of my life I started to lose hope that has led to my state today.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Where I have been relying on my own strength and human understanding, I humbly repent of this error. I invite the Holy Spirit to please reveal the roots of my depression to me so I can ask Jesus to heal and restore me. I want the new life that Jesus Christ died to give me through His Holy Spirit!
Romans 8:11 ESV If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Where I have wished to die or made a death wish, I repent for cursing myself and the life that God prepared for me. Where I have hated and cursed other people, participated in festivals of the dead or abortions, I now confess these sins to my Heavenly Father.
Deuteronomy 30:19 ESV I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,
1 John 3:15 ESV Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
I declare that my God is fully able to turn my mourning into joy. I ask You to please remove the spirits of death and heaviness from me, in Jesus’ name.
Isaiah 61:3 ASV … to give unto them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, that he may be glorified.
I will choose to continue to put my hope in You, not in the things of this world. I know I need to begin a journey of renewal from these thoughts of death. Please show me where I have given Satan a foothold to torment me with his lies of rejection, dejection and self-accusation. I invite my God Almighty to bring Your revelations to me so I can ask You to deliver me from evil.
Colossians 1:13 ESV He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Please help me have an undivided heart so that I sleep and rest well tonight.
Psalm 86:10-11 NIV For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Thank you that You will not forsake me, no matter how low I feel or how deep I fall. I look at Your wonderful Face and know that You are able to turn this emotional and mental torture into something glorious one day. I will not give up hope in Your salvation, oh Lord.
Deuteronomy 31:8 ESV It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Psalm 62:5-6 ESV For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
